Position Summary:
ACU has an exciting opportunity for a Collections Specialist to join our Collections Department in Ashland, KY.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist Ashland Credit Union (ACU) in living out its mission of “embolden our members to reach higher, achieve more, and take control of their financial future.” A key component to this is providing outstanding service to both internal and external members.
This position will be responsible for engaging and interacting with members who are experiencing troubled debt as well as administrative duties within the Collection Department.
Job Responsibilities:
Monitor payments for delinquent status. Contact members by phone, text, and mail to assist them in developing plans to bring accounts current. Develop workout plans whenever possible.
Update files and system accounts via the credit union’s delinquent loan recovery system. Maintaining a detailed written record of all communications with members.
Maintain accurate data for repossession log and bankruptcy log.
Review delinquent accounts to determine when further collection action, making recommendation to Collection Manager for approval.
File proof of claims in bankruptcy case, coordinate with collection supervisor for referral to attorney as needed.
Prepare account files to be referred to repossession agent as needed.
Perform account research as needed.
This role will be cross training within the Collections Department to perform all tasks and responsibilities within the department.
Other duties as requested by the President, EVP, Chief Risk Officer or Manager.
Education & Experience Requirements:
3 years’ experience working in a financial services environment with at least 1 year in collections preferred.
Required Skills & Abilities:
Excellent communication, problem resolution, and research skills.
Self-motivated with strong attention to detail.
Ability to discuss financial situations with a member over the phone.
Proficiency with Microsoft products (Word, Excel, etc.).
Ability to work Monday thru Friday 8am to 5pm EST and occasional evenings and Saturdays.
